The Dorchester Volunteer Fire Department is located in the rural community of Dorchester, SC and was created in 1978 by a small group of citizens concerned with the lack of fire protection in the area. The department operated off of fire fees collected from each homeowner in the area until gaining funding from the County in 1990. The department currently operates two pumper/tankers, one tanker, one squad, and one disaster response trailer to provide the residents of its district with fire, medical, and technical rescue services.
